"It's amazing that the thing is still leaking. I would have thought that at some point the pressure
would equalize, and/or water would start to enter the chamber. It's at the bottom of the gulf, after
all."Great quote, and something I'd expect to hear from the lips of BP 'experts'. The truth is they never anticipated or prepared for something like this. That's the nature of extractive
venture capitalism. Get in, get what you want, and get out. Usually you leave a bleeding clearcut
mountain or an open-pit mining scar. But nothing like this mile-deep faucet that no one knows how
to turn off.The Feds, groomed under Dick Cheney's secret energy policy meetings (the records of which still have
not been released) have given a pass to the oil companies on at least a hundred MANDATORY
Environmental Impact Statements in the Gulf in the past decade. And now there are reports circulating
that Mineral Management agency staff (the ones who were supposed to provide oversight on the oil
companies) were partying, doing drugs with, and fucking oil company lobbyists. I'm kind of amazed that 'We the People" are not down at BP HQ occupying the boardrooms and
demanding accountability. I'm also amazed that Dick Cheney hasn't been fitted for a deep-sea diver's
suit and sunk to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico on a suicide mission to retrieve Halliburton's lost
honor.
