If possible I like to have a hard copy of a album I like. Be it actual vinyl or CD with the mp3 version on my iPod. I downloaded nearly every release over the last year, before I purchased the record. It's my way of deciding on purchasing the disc or not. Though there are a good number of releases that never make it to a hard copy and wind up getting bumped off the iPod for the latest wave of downloads.I do understand you wanting to have the package in your hand, but having a CD collection in the palm of your hand is a very nice feature about MP3 and portable player. Besides I've noticed that many artists these days offer very little in the way of packaging and even liner notes and musician credits for each song is becomming an extinct feature in CD booklets. I love the recent trend of buying the vinyl version with a MP3 download link inside or even a CD, like the recent Josh Ritter release on Record Store Day. Or ordering the album online and getting a download link on release day. As far as sound quality, it depends on the bit rate and the device you are playing the MP3. I have a Harden/Kardom portable mp3 boom box and it sounds better than my out-dated dying stereo. For the iPod I use Bose earbuds.
