Yes, I go once or twice a year, and I've taken EuroStar several times. EuroStar is a much better bet to get from London to Paris. It's just as fast, and you end up at Gare du Nord rather than at CDG, so you save on the additional train ride into town. The earlier you book, the cheaper the price, but beware of non-refundables if your travel plans might change. The train is a very smooth ride.

Paris can be very hot in August, and the buildings aren't generally set up for good air conditioning. On the positive side, many of the Parisiens will be on holiday, so the politeness level ratchets up. If you like museums or shopping, Paris is great. Otherwise, get out of Dodge as soon as possible, go to Normandy, and experience the real France.
