Well of course you're right Peter, politically it would be impossible to close VA, because much of VA posture is of political foundation. But, I meant what I said otherwise. The veterans would get better, more encompassing and easier access medical care with a good VA Health Care card, allowing them to get all services in their community hospitals. The cost of running the VA system as a separate entity is very wasteful, AND if there is ever a true system of National Health care here, a separate VA would be even more unnecessary. In Canada, we used to have Veterans hospitals,which have now been phased out since there is a Socialized Medical scheme in place (has been since around 1970).
