I, for one, would love to see the 'fairness doctrine' or whatever it's called reinstated as an antidote to the wildly inflammatory rhetoric of O'Reilly, Savage, et al. Last night I heard Savage call Obama a 'communist' who presides over 'the most corrupt government in US history".

The murder of George Tiller in Wichita last weekend can be traced to this kind of speech. Bill O'Reilly has been after Tiller for years calling him 'Tiller the Baby Killer' and saying in one televised instance: "Tiller will execute your baby for $5000".

Randall Terry, the head of Operation Rescue, ostensibly condemning Tiller's murder, still managed to call him 'a mass murderer' at a press conference on Sunday.

I recall that a mall shooter a few months ago had a backpack full of books by various right-wing pundits. It doesn't take much to see that a guy with a head full of ideology, a loose screw, and a rifle can be given a shove by these talk show hosts and someone's going to get killed.

If I were Atty General Eric Holder I'd be looking at a way to haul O'Reilly's ass into court as an accessory to murder.
