I listened to the title track. More sameness. What troubles me is he hasn't evolved one inch since
1970's, and it's still the same themes...the blades of grass, the birds and the bees and oh how happy
we all could be if it weren't for the fact that he's still sad or whatever. He has 2 or 3 melody modes
and uses them over and over. Pleasant music, but I'll pass....When I was in Med School (last century), I had a classmate, now a Child Psychiatrist, who shared my
fondness for the then young Jackson Browne. I think it was around the time of Late for the Sky. His
first wife Phyllis had committed suicide, and the whole sound was very sad and introspective. I mused
about the circumstances, and my friend Jonathan said something to the effect of the reason she killed
herself was probably from being around him so much. I met him at a backstage function many years
ago, and I use the term "met" very loosely. He met a few of us fans who had donated money to
whatever cause he was behind at the time, I think it was something to do with AIDS. He was very
withdrawn, completely into himself and the total narcissist. Never cracked a smile, not even for
photos. The asshole light on his forehead seemed to be flickering every once in a while, but maybe I
was just imagining it, and he mighta just been having a bad day. My 30th med school reunion is coming up soon....count it...THIRTY! Jonathan is planning to show up.
We'll have to reminisce...
