In 2002, while running for lieutenant governor, Palin called herself as "pro-life as any candidate
can be."[25] She opposes abortion for rape and incest victims,[83] supporting it only in cases where
the mother's life is in danger.[84] Palin does support contraception,[85] and is a prominent member
of Feminists for Life, which takes no position on that issue.[86]
Palin opposes same-sex marriage[25] and supported a non-binding referendum for a
constitutional amendment to deny state health benefits to same-sex couples.[87] Palin has stated
that she supported the 1998 constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.[25]
In a televised debate, Palin supported teaching both creationism and evolution in public schools.
The next day she clarified her position to one of allowing the discussion of alternative views and not
of having creationism in the curriculum.[88]
Palin, as Governor, said she would be in favor of the death penalty in extreme cases if the
legislature passed it.[89] She does not support re-legalizing marijuana in Alaska, stating concerns
about the message re-legalization would send to her children.[25]
Palin has strongly promoted oil and natural gas resource development in Alaska, including opening
the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to drilling.[32] She does not believe that global warming
is man-made.[35] She opposed listing of the polar bear as an endangered species,[90] and
supported a controversial predator-control program involving aerial hunting of wolves.[91]
Palin is a member of the National Rifle Association, and is popular among gun rights activists. She
is a strong proponent of the Second Amendment, and supports gun safety education for youth.[92]
According to Time, Palin's foreign policy positions were not clear at the time she was picked,[93]
but she has called for an exit strategy to bring the troops home from Iraq.[53][94] According to her
spokeswoman, Palin has traveled to three destinations outside the United States: Ireland, and
Germany and Kuwait in 2007, where she met with members of the Alaska National Guard.[95]
I'm starting to fucking hate her. And, after hearing John McCain interviewed in depth today
on C-
span (1st time I have ever heard him speak for a significant length of time), I conclude he is a total
dipshit. He is very evasive and misleading on answering any questions which make him
uncomfortable...in those instances he resorts to some sort of party line answer. Then, he laughs...
Later I saw Barack Obama and Joe Biden being interviewed together (they were both wearing
the
same colored ties!). Not at all impressive...either of them. Obama offered the usual platitudes with
a smile, and Biden nodded..for the most part.
Nope, Eugene is sitting this one out, folks. Like George Washington I cannot tell a lie, and
neither
of these "cards" gets my vote. And oh yeah, Nader needs to die..but we've covered that one in an
earlier post.
