stark raving brad (view)

that settles it, sjl. you gotta move.

i saw Bruce on the 88 Amnesty Int'l 'Human Rights Now' tour at LA Coliseum, with Peter Gabriel, Stingy, Tracy Chapman and Youssou N'Dour. that did NOT suck. i was pretty much back row amongst nearly 100,000 people. and Bruce rocked the entire fucking house. i was there to see PG and bumblebee boy, but Bruce impressed the living shit out of me. that guy is a rocking charisma MACHINE.

i saw db on the Bedtime Stories and NFU tours. eh. at least he tried.

i do remember being front row for both, and at the earlier tour ('91, i believe. it was a free show, and on my birthday, too), after he played All For You, i, recalling a quote from his recent Rolling Stone interview, said 'you're in that song somewhere', to which he animatedly replied 'lies, all lies!'

NFU was great. not as big a crowd at Slim's that night (lotta punters just sitting in the back having drinks at their tables...), so i had the front to myself, taping the show with a device placed right on stage. Nothing's Gonna and Bitter Tree were excellent (Hans was at the show, db took pains not only with the sauces but also to point out that Bitter Tree was merely metaphorical). i was in the middle of a divorce, so Crash just floored me. AIDS & Arm rocked. he closed with Heroes. i was drunk and stole the master setlist off the stage, which he was nice enough to sign afterwards at the bar. good times.

just saw Shawn Colvin opening for Hiatt a couple months ago, too.

so, yeah...don't mean to rub it in or anything (gawd i'm such a LIAR), but...you gotta move.
