I logged over 110,000 flight miles this year, and I found that if anything, airport security was getting both faster and better, with more polite and better-trained people at security checkpoints.  The Canadian incident was surprising to me.

One major exception was Newark, NJ, which should be avoided at all costs.  They seem to be woefully understaffed, and the wait time through security, even in the business class line, was almost an hour.

I have noticed flight delays increasing somewhat, but that's more of an infrastructure issue than a security one.

I've noticed a marked improvement in courtesy and wait times while clearing customs.  All ports of entry now post a list of customer courtesy expectations at each immigration checkpoint, and I've found the officers generally follow the guidelines.

We did have a recent visitor from Saudi Arabia, who was ticked off about being held up in immigration with his family (who tagged along) for almost four hours.  Being that he was from Saudi, my unspoken reaction was along the lines of, "yeah, so what?"
