Re: Just in time for your Thanksgiving travels
We're entrusting the safety of our airwaves to government employees paid not much over minimum wage. I travel a lot, and some airports are better than others, but the overall attitude by TSA staff, especially in large airports is that the traveler is an inconvenience to them and that "Passenger Rights" is about as high on their mind as "Mosquito Rights". TSA management is incented on how many items they recover, and I've heard that there is a quota, as some bean counter has calculated the statistical probabilities of people carrying on banned items. Atlanta (unfortunately, my home airport) is the worst I've ever seen, with LAX and LaGuardia right up behind it.The thing that struck me about that article was the "19 layers of security". 19 layers? How the hell can there be 19 layers of anything? Is that the 2 layers of x-ray screening and metal detection and 17 layers of profiling? I don't know if this was intentional or not, but it's certainly going to result in a knee-jerk reaction of having every passenger's carryons searched thoroughly, along with those "random" personal searches we love so much.I'm flying out of South Florida tonight, so we'll see how it goes.
