Anyway this affects me as I live on the edge of O'Hare Airport and my town is battling Chicago over this expansion project.
In short its a hugely expensive 10 year plan that will be obsolete in 15 years.
The most disturbing part is that there is a south suburban site that is ready to go with private funding, that is stalled. Not to mention the underused and under developed existing Gary Indiana Airport.
But the city stands to have lots of money to play with/hide/pocket if this goes through.
Never mind the murky financing, ecological concerns, 100+ year old cemeteries that would have to be moved, displaced citizens and short term obsolescence.
If its good for a business, I guess its more important than your home.
This does not bode well.
Supreme Court Rules Cities May Seize Homes

WASHINGTON - A divided Supreme Court ruled that local governments may seize people's homes and businesses against their will for private development in a decision anxiously awaited in communities where economic growth conflicts with individual property rights.
As a result, cities now have wide power to bulldoze residences for projects such as shopping malls and hotel complexes in order to generate tax revenue.
Local officials, not federal judges, know best in deciding whether a development project will benefit the community, justices said.
