I'm with you Dan. The eighties was when I was at high school and Uni. - music was all important. Listening to music from that period evokes memories of youth and all that entails - highs and lows, achievements and failures.
As to ELO, they were different to everything else. I watched "Concert for George" last night on TV (tribute to George Harrison). Jeff Lynne was very prominent (having been a Travelling Wilbury - what an eclectic group of musicians to put together...) - looked much the same, sounded much the same - always had a pretty smooth singing voice. I got quite emotional watching the show. By the time Eric Clapton played lead on "While my guitar gently weeps", I was doing that myself...
Favourite 80's music - The Police, The Cars, Dire Straits, Del Amitri, Lloyd Cole & the Commotions, Split Enz, Crowded House. Billy Idol was good for doing aerobics to - the exercise fad of the 80's.
