Hopefully someone can explain to me why John Mellencamp was not voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first go around. I realize that many may think he is just a pop star, but a careful listen to his music shows a great variation and broad growth. Then there is all his charity work, the Farm Aid concerts, his constant vigilance for civil rights and free speech issues and his unwillingness to compromise. To top it off, there is his recent attempt to introduce people to American roots music. And I think back in 81 (American Fool) he had the number one selling album of the year. Now, I'm not taking anything away from the other inductees, but come one, if ZZ Top was inducted, why not Mellencamp? This really baffles me and the voters should be taken to task.
