My take on the MJ catalog is this -
Off the Wall is very good but dated. When you're listening to it - you can't help but envision nights spent waiting for the lights to flash reverse skate. I consider Thriller more transitional than anything else. Sure, it was a huge seller - and you can't deny the brilliance of the bass line in Billie Jean - but it only set the stage for what was to become Dangerous. The hints of which can be clearly seen in Smooth Criminal and Dirty Diana on Bad. These two tracks alone are worth the price of admission. But then Dangerous hit with a much darker tone. It is in this element where I think MJ shines. The title track is superb. And if you can listen to Jam without wishing you could dance (and I mean really dance) then you're dead. And to me - that's why I love this disc - because not a day goes by that I don't wish that I could REALLY dance.
