Also, to heed to the words of David Bowie in INTERVIEW who says now that he has a 4 year old daughter, it's time to find things to be optimistic about so that he can give her the gift of hope and not the idea that Life and the World are only things about which to despair.  (all paraphrased)

Hope: that she grows up tolook like her mother?

Autumn isn't depressing. Don't you feel happy just thinking about plopping into a big pile of (the neighbors') leaves and throwing them up in the air and them running like hell not to get caught before said neighbor returns from wherever he disappeared to so you might enjoy this moment?
