I agree, Peter T. — an excellent song, full of love, regret, and a bit of hope.

Recently, my dad had a frightening and unexpected health scare with his gallbladder that landed him in the hospital, leaving us with more questions than answers. He was in a pretty low place. But - thankfully, I picked him up and brought him home today.

For a while, we were worried he might be in the hospital over Christmas — which feels like a much smaller worry than it did a week ago. We’re deeply relieved that we’ll be spending another Christmas together as a family this year.

But as you said, there will be many families who won’t. Our collective humanity feels like it’s been on a downward trend for some time now, and it’s hard to see where the bottom is.

So with that in mind: bask in the presence of your loved ones, soak up their love — and enjoy some gravy.
