Yes, we can now add Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer to the long and admirable list of truth tellers condemned for speaking the truth to power. Sure, she's not at personal risk, and her name will exit this news cycle as quickly as it appeared, but it's yet another example of the battle that inconvenient and sometimes heretical truths face when those in power refuse to accept them.

Russia's military has been shown to have been hollowed out for decades, owing to the facts on the ground being unable to rise through the chain of command. It was clearly known that Putin doesn't tolerate bad news, and his subordinates are no fools!

Given Trump's similar distaste for facts that don't align with his gut, there must be hundreds or thousands of pieces of information that will not make it into his consciousness. His administration has not, and will not, be grounded in reality. What could possibly go wrong?

We'd all be wise to keep in mind this instruction from the late philosopher, Daniel Dennett: "Those who fear the facts will forever try to discredit the fact-finders."
