The difference between this scandal, and all others to date is I think at least three-fold: 1: the simplistic and unutterably vile nature of the offense—there is little chance that being a member of a pedophile ring can be brushed off as “locker room” talk, and he is clearly and blatantly guilty for all but the most blinkered of MAGAts. The second and probably most important is that he seems to have lost his two most important media fluffers—Elon Musk and Rupert Murdoch. The third is the centrality of child abuse to the MAGA engine. The hardest core Trump fans are at heart QAnon types, who have fed from the start on the bizarre myth that Trump was some kind of secret agent, engaged in some kind of 4D chess game to bring their favorite subjects, like Obama and Pelosi, and Hillary to “justice.” And thank you, Dan, I’d forgotten about that song, I’ll have to see if I can do something with it.
