The year was 1986 and a band releases their first (and only*) LP on the A&M label. The group split before releasing another album and the lead songwriter named David continued a mostly eclectic sporadic solo career. Sound familiar? The subject of the post already gave it away. The band was The Lover Speaks composed of friends David Freeman and Joseph Hughes. The self titled album didn't spawn any hits - but a cover version of one track by Annie Lennox was a smash in 1995 - "No More 'I Love You's'". And as far as I can tell David Freeman is still out there making music.
That first release is decent and is a worthy addition to any collection of 80s music. But just prior to being dropped by A&M - the band had a second release ready to go. It wasn't released but copies have floated around. It contains an excellent track The Big Lie which I dig.
fun fact - David + David shared 2 A&M promo releases with The Lover Speaks. One is the D+D - Introducing D+D [here] and another compilation of album tracks called "A Year Ago We Hadn't Heard Of Them Either"
