First of all, a big thank you to Dan! You have kept this bar open, day and night, rain or shine, for what, a quarter century? You have touched many lives, honestly, and here's to the next 25 years, and especially to that day when Trump ceases to set his fat, ever-widening rump on the furniture of our minds!

The Michael Shermer Podcast just interviewed Katherine Stewart, author of the excellent book, Money, Lies, and God. Stewart has spent over a decade with these disparate groups who share a common goal: the end of American democracy and the ascension of Christian Nationalism. Her in-depth examination focuses on the five main groups: the Funders (and their billions of dollars in donations), the Thinkers (Heritage Foundations, Federalist Society, and especially the cretins at the Claremont Institute), the Sergeants (school board members, Moms For Liberty types), the Infantry (those pious pew sitters in the hard-right Christian churches and their pastors), and finally, the Players (those with name recognition at the state and national level). 

These people are well funded, organized, and highly motivated. They play the long game, working for decades to achieve their goals. They are relentless, believing they are working for the creator of the universe. 

Among their goals are the end of public education (with vouchers for Christian schools), the subjugation of women and the loss of their bodily autonomy, the end of American democracy (with many feeling all warm and fuzzy for something like Orban's Hungary, the loss of rights for the LGBTQIA community, and for many, an American theocracy.

I highly recommend buying the book, and this interview is a great introduction to the very impressive Katherine Stewart.
