I am taking this speech out of context of the film but this seems to express so much of how I feel about where we are in this country. In the film the speech is a Hail Mary, he throws it out there as a last hope, appealing to the justice in people's hearts. The little shrug Newman gives at the end of it is, well, brilliant, conveying that is all he's got, it is in their hands, and he knows there is not much hope. Of course, it is a movie, a great one, and if you have seen it you know what happens. When he gives that little shrug though, yeah, I feel like that is my speech to the American people, and I am asking them, is there justice in your hearts? I still believe it is there but can someone reach it like Frank Galvin (Newman) reaches into the hearts of those jurors.

Where is the goodness and decency in people? It has to still be there and there must be a way to touch it and bring it out. We're not lost, there has to be words for this.
