They generally only ask that you do what you can.
I was asked to hand out some postcards for Tift Merrit, Willie Nelson and Isaac Freeman at Merle Fest, which I was happy to do while I was there.
I hear that Lost Highway just signed The Drive By Truckers so there is hope that you may just have a shot. :^)
