There I was, standing in a record store in Bethesda, just browsing. Then I saw it..this kid just a few years older than my oldest son, all smile with guitar at his side on the CD cover. Naw..couldn't be worth a listen, besides I hate most "alternative" music. Give me an alternative to alternative.
But, as I put on the headphones at the listening station..I was absolutely floored.
My vote for favourite pop album of the year.
Vocals reminiscent of Michael Franks meets Kenny Rankin, meets James Taylor, and of course totally original John Mayer.
Beautifully crafted and lyrical songs.
Superb guitar playing, even though structured around major 7ths and that ilk a little too much; perhaps not enough, though...who knows??
It's a kick ass CD. Give a listen and tell me what you think.
Whoever recommended Grant Lee Phillips, several threads ago..THANK YOU!! I picked up Mobilize tonight also....masterpiece!
