Well, the mechanism to force a president out of office here is impeachment but with Republicans in the majority in the House and Senate, it will never happen. So, I would say no chance to force him out. He is untouchable.
I would call us a fading democracy. The problem being, a democracy relies on the vast majority of people wanting a democracy and a government in place that agrees to conform to a democratic system of government, and what that government should be doing.
We no longer have these things. Basically, those registered to vote that went out to vote split pretty evenly, about 75 million for Trump, and somewhat short of 75 million for Harris. Then we have about 90 million people that did not vote at all. Many registered voters did not vote this time, mainly the thought is because they are so disgusted with their choices and the process.
If you have many people that do not vote and have no interest in it, they forfeit their votes to the idea that whatever happens, happens. Which is not how to maintain a democracy.
Probably the majority of Trump voters are done with democracy and no longer want it. I, personally, have not quite grasped why, but the bottom line seems to be they think democracy does not work. They prefer a dictatorship, one big daddy that just makes the decisions for everyone. I've always believed that religious people are very open to this because they essentially are used to those terms in worshiping an all powerful god. Everything is god's will, and so much better to them to follow an earthly god that dictates the rules to everyone. They have basically determined that our orange buffoon is god's emissary here on Earth. So, much better to do away with things like voting and democracy because they don't believe that someone that does not believe in their god should have any say in anything.
We are now in the phase where we will see how you either totally destroy or save a democracy. The power of destruction is in the hands of the MAGA party now, and they are not hiding their intent to destroy it.
To save it, well, you have to get people to believe in the idea of democracy again, this I fear is no easy task. It could be that people that voted for Trump begin to see how he is not doing the things he said he would do and they turn on him. Some of them likely will. However, I think many will cheer the things he did yesterday, meaningless things that do nothing to improve the lives of regular people like renaming a body of water and declaring there are just two sexes. These are empty things that just make people think they can cheer because the name America has been stamped on a map and someone actually had to tell them there are just two biological sexes. They are literally do nothing proclamations meant for idiots. As was saying he was restoring free speech. Nobody has done anything to restrict our speech, we are have more free speech than we have ever had. Sadly, what MAGA means by free speech, is NO FACTCHECKING and the freedom to lie and con people without being called out for it. That is what they mean by free speech.
If people don't have the facts, they can't make good decisions.
I don't know if we can be saved at this point. It looks to me like it will be a daily fight to hang on to what is left of our democracy.
People are going to have to want this and I am not sure that we do.
If the United States falls, make no mistake, nobody in the world is safe, because the people in charge here feel they will be allowed to bully and destroy every other democracy on the planet.
Yesterday, Trump said, honestly this was a US president saying this, that North Korea was a fantastic place with a lot of coastline. This was just one of many things that said, we are no longer a country, we are a small group of oligarchs looking for more assets. Greenland, Canada, Panama, they are just the appetizer.
I think Trump and the people behind him want to make this get really ugly, really fast. Hold on tight.
