Hi everyone! I just went to the first show of Clem Snide's tour a few days ago (an amazing show, by the way), and the lead singer, Eef Barzelay, related an anecdote which seemed a little bit appropriate for this message board (keeping in mind some stories that David has told).
So here it is. One of their songs, "Moment in the Sun," never struck me as being particularly that interesting. But he introduced it thusly: "As a writer, it's often useful and important to see things through someone else's eyes, to get a different perspective by taking on another character's persona. So I wrote this song from the perspective of Jewel."
Here are the lyrics:
"When its my moment in the sun,
oh, how beautiful Ill be,
but in a normal sort of way,
like I am you and you are me.
Cause I have a lot of things to say
and youd be wise to listen good.
I think that hunger, war, and death
are bringing everybody down.
La, la, la, la, la
When its my moment in the sun,
Ill share my problems with the world.
And psychosomatically Ill sing
to God and all his pretty girls.
La, la, la, la, la
When its my moment in the sun,
I wont forget that I am blessed.
But every hero walks alone
thinking of more things to confess."
I just thought that in light of the Jewel issues that have been discussed here, those lyrics might be a nice source of amusement. Of course, seeing as "A Fine Mess" has David duetting with Jewel, maybe I've just horribly offended someone. Well, it's just a joke, so I hope not.
best wishes to all,
Scott
