Recently while teaching about the colonies, my fifth grade class and I got into a discussion about the usage of hemp during the 1600's. The students were really confused as to why it is not industrialized in the U.S currently. We talked about the reason for it being banned regarding the marijuana issue.
The funny thing is that a few kids brought up the oil and forestry companies as to the reason why hemp is not industrialized. We had a great discussion, but it did make me a tad nervous due to the "narrow" thoughts of my community.
