Hello Again,
As everyone knows, passions are running high and the political players are getting into their battle stances.
There's one small detail though, the *full* result is not in yet. The Republicans are starting to line up their delegation, while the Democrats are swearing blindly that Al Gore has already won the popular vote. The fact is, everything's up in the air. Both groups are premature in their planning. It's a real possibility that the side could win outright and this whole popular v electoral vote will be irrelevent.
If this esculates (which it probably will) the best thing that could happen is that they put a 4-7 day news blackout on the counts and negotiations. It does sound extreme but if the news coverage skewed election day, then once you've taken the oxygen of publicity away from spin-meisters then the initiative lies in the hands of the relevent authorities on the voting teams and in the hands of the representatives from each political party.
The quicker that the right people on all sides are freed up to do their duty then the clearer the path the legal heads have if they need to step in to appeal and/or ask for recounts or whatever. I'm sure nobody forgotten that Gore's campaign manager (Bill Daley) was the son of the Chicago mayor who allegedly rigged the 1960 election? Let's be clear who the players are here. Does it bother anyone else that we're drifting closer to a banana republic of sorts?
Richard
PS - The news coverage is straight out of a Carl Hiaasen novel though, wouldn't ya say?!?!
