Dear David :

I am a fifth grade teacher in York PA. I am currently involved in a professional development plan titled, "Integrating Music and the Arts into the Fifth Grade Curriculum." For this project, I need to interview people who make their living in the field of music. The purpose of this project is to solidify my view that schools need to add more music and arts to the "regular" school day in order to touch many different types of learners... for example..... studying musical changes as times changed in U.S. History..Native Arrival, Explorers, Revolution, Civil War,etc... Using current music to study word usage, grammar, etc.
I was wondering if you would have the time
to answer the following questions via email :

1. How did you get interested in music?
2. What role, if any, did the public school system do to build upon or extend your musical interest?
3. If you had a child in the public school system, what would you want him/her to get out of the music program?
4. How has music changed culturally since you started in the business?
5. Are there any artists or performers that you feel it is vital for Elementary students to be familiar with?

I have been lucky enough to hold this interview with Mark Karan after a show, and David Gans via email. I would really appreciate anything that you can do to help, also, if you know of anyone else who might be interested in this project, feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
Sean Potts
