Aliens
Indeed I worked for a day with Ms Weaver, putting together an all-balalaika Russian folk music version of Back In The USSR.

Napster
While I'm all for the democratisation of music, I'm also as a
songwriter and family man concerned about my copyrights. I don't know where I stand on Napster. I don't think even Napster knows where Napster stands on Napster. It's such a new phenomenon that noone really knows which way it's going to go... only that it will go someplace. I know the major labels are circling the wagons and trying to protect their
interests. We just have to wait and see which direction it looks like it's going.

Patti and Lou
Lou Reed is probably the most significant influence I personally have as a songwriter. His use of journalistic detail ("here he comes, all dressed in black, with Dior shoes and a big straw hat") and his subject matter combined to keep him on my stereo all through my teenage years. Patti Smith I always revered, but with the exception of making me aware of the importance of a great opening line ("Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine") I can't say as she's had a direct influence on my own stuff. She certainly made an impact, though.

I'm sorry to say that for a variety of reasons, I've pulled out of the Lars/Elektra thing. So "A Fine Mess" is it as far as releases of my own personal thing goes...
