I'm still not exactly sure what the exact or absract message
of the frogs in Magnolia (I'm not sure the director knows either), but, they are foreshadowed earlier in the film when the child prodigy is in the library studying...one of the books he is reading is by Charles Fort. Fort (most popular writing: The Book Of The Damned) was famous for recording unexplainable occurences. Some of which are several cases of raining frogs and fish.
Also, if you've see Short Cuts by Robert Altman (based on stories of Raymond Carver), there is very similar parallel between structure and endings of both movies (intentional I would say).
