Hi there - my name is Ian and I am a three dozen year old European mutt. I was born in France (an Air Force brat) then lived in Germany until the 2nd grade before moving to Madison, Wis. Stayed there through high school, then joined the Navy. Volunteered for submarine duty (Reagan was in office and I figured the safest place to be when he launched was 737 feet underwater) as a sonar technician and ended up at Pearl Harbor. Through it all I managed to have fun and raise hell. So, after being run from the Navy, I moved to Dallas where I waited tables (including a couple years at the Improv comedy club), went to school, got married and had a daughter. Moved back to Madison eight years ago, and shed the wife. Currently working for a defense contractor (yikes!) and attending classes at the University of Wisconsin-Madison working on an MBA (double yikes!).
I listen to a bunch of different artists, including: DB (duh!), Michelle Shocked, The BoDeans, Staind, Buddy Rich, Chris Duarte, Rush, Powerman 5000, Foo Fighters, Robert Cray, REM, Angel City, Garbage, Tom Petty, and my local favorite, Mad Trucker Gone Mad. I go to live shows as often as I can, preferring the clubs to the arenas. When I travel I check to see what bands are playing at my destination before I book a flight or a room (bless www.pollstar.com!).
I am also a baseball fan, drowsy right now from getting up at 4 AM to watch the regular season opener with my Dad. Bet we were the only people in the county grilling bratwurst at 5:30 this morning! I feel confident in saying that only because the ice fisherman have all put up their shanties.
One of the great regrets of my life was a fateful three days in 86 when I hit a fork in the road and chose to see Rob Jungklas rather than David and David in concert. Had I known that would be my only chance to ever see D+D, I surely would not have allowed my large breasted companion to persuade me, as she did (at least not to the exclusion of the other gig!).
Thanks for reading this drivel, those of you that have not already dozed off.
