Kudos to the Doctor! There's a wonderful, if at times a little hyperbolic book called "Five Arguments For The Elimination Of Television" by a man with the unbelievable yet God-given name of Gerry Mander. Mander is a former Ad man, or flack as we call them, who experienced a crisis of conscience and became an anti-TV crusader. Most recommended, particularly for those of us with young children, who may wonder how much of this beast we can allow into our homes and into their very tender young minds.
Also of note in this area are the ideas of The Waldorf Schools, which address this and other problems in a most sensible and holistic manner, and seem to do a remarkable job
of turning out healthy, curious, affectionate, and mostly un-braindamaged human beings, even in this demented era.
All Hail the Good Doctor Capybara!
