Icon It was destined to happen, EEE, but...

my wife and I watched the film last night. This is the rarest of occasions where we don't agree with you, EEE. We just didn't think the script was strong, and we therefore never had the "rooting interest" for a character that one often has in a coming of age flick. Additionally, I never laughed...not once, and I'm a hell of a funny guy! Lastly, the soundtrack wasn't up to snuff. There were a few decent cuts but none of the sustained nostalgic joy that the best of these types of films provide. I'm a sucker for the genre when the film is well done. Off the top of my head, I really like to varying degrees American Graffiti, Almost Famous, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Animal House (perhaps they are a bit long in the tooth but still...), The Perks of Being A Wallflower, Say Anything, Dazed and Confused, Sixteen Candles. On the television front, Freaks and Geeks was terrific. Some may quibble regarding what constitutes a coming of age film, and I understand. I guess I equate them with my being transported back to those anxious, not entirely happy days, when my life was consumed by yearnings for girls I never had the courage to approach, endless games of basketball, and a few friends who shared my undying devotion to The Clash and Springsteen.

Keep the recommendations coming, EEE!
