So, these films really, to me make points about the situations we find ourselves in as a country, they do leave you with things to think about and they are all good films.

I will add to this list, but if you want to try some of these out, let me know what you thought.

The Last Hunt - This is probably not a well-known or remembered western, but it should be. It is about two very different guys that put together a buffalo hunt for profit, and basically what it does to them. It shows an aspect of the growth of our nation that is not well covered, shown for how brutal it was, and demonstrates how we can become filled with bloodlust. Really, a need to kill. It is a great film, obviously a bit dark, but I think it packs a serious wallop. This is not typical John Wayne type stuff.

Joe - This film presents us with a picture of a MAGA supporter before MAGA existed. Again, dark, but Peter Boyle is very good in this. Basically shows that what we are seeing today with MAGA is not something new under our sun. Some aspects may seem dated, but you are going to recognize an awful lot in this one.

Kagemusha - OK, this is the Baerwald board after all, David loves Kurosawa, so I am going to slip one of these in here. This was a sort of comeback film for Kurosawa, and it presents some interesting ideas about leaders and leadership. What our expectations are as human beings, what we want from a leader. Plus honestly, it is a great looking film and is Akira firing on all cylinders. David can comment on it, I'm sure.
