Icon Walter Cronkite World News segment on Woodstock....8-18-69

Last night, for whatever unknown reason, I started searching YouTube for old newscasts at the time of Woodstock in 1969.

It was so interesting to watch how those newscasters were responding to Woodstock in real-time.  Of particular note was how so many of the reports initially started from a perspective of horror because of the first thought of what it would be like for the vastly underestimated prediction of 200k young people in one place at a time and how the opinions then shifted to how remarkably impressed area residents were at the behavior of the 500k that did show up.

It was also interesting to see these reports from the eyes of older white men.  Lastly, one of the reports was by Walter Cronkite and what I took away from that is how badly we need a "Walter Cronkite" in this country again when it comes to public opinion and how sad it has become that people like him really don't exist anymore.

Oh, and it was sort of stunning that these reports from 1969 were in black and white.
