If you are a fan of the Sexy Beast movie with Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley, and Ian McShane, then this eight-part prequel series on Paramount+ is highly recommended.
I do not know how they did it, but in the series the cast is exceptional. The actors they cast have captured the characters in the original so very well and I mean down to mannerisms and speech patterns. It is uncanny.
And in the series, the creators really join the movie and series quite well.
Special mentions need to be made about Stephen Moyer's portrayal of Teddy Bass and Tamsin Greig's portrayal as the cold-hearted and vicious sister of Don Logan. Both of these actors knock their performances right out of the park.
The only roles I've seen Tamsin Greig in have been comedic or likable ones, and wow, in this role she is amazing.
However, Stephen Moyer outdoes them all as Teddy Bass. Fuck. The stares this guy throws out are chilling to the bone and if his name is not heard a lot around the next award seasons, then that will be a surprise (though, his portrayal may just be too rough in this world full of whimpering cancellation experts).
I can't encourage fans of the movie to seek this out enough - on a sad note, I do feel this is heading toward the column of "best shows no one is watching" - though, the series does end in a way that may predict another season.
