Icon Here is one thing we are missing and not fully appreciating to our detriment...

I've seen a couple of interviews with the new House Speaker and it has made me aware of something and how disarmingly harmless this guy comes off as.  He has that fake, plastic veneer that resembles what Barbara Bush had and these veneers are so useful in completely masking a person's true nature.   It's like that fake folksy aura of the one Republican woman that not long ago yelled "shut up" at press conference - these damn things somehow innoculate these assholes and turns them into appealing decent, folksy people instead of revealing how dangerous they are.

When it comes to the human nature of a Trump, what I noticed is that the only people things like this really matter to are opponents. Some people will most likely go "duh" but the main thing to learn here is that Democrats do not fully appreciate what the possession of such veneers means and they continue to prove it by the constant focus on Trump and the full-on nastiness of the Republican/Conservative groups.

What I'm getting at is we have now had, what, six years of Trump's horrible behavior, and to Republicans (most of them, anyway) his behavior does not matter to them.  To our detriment, he gave it away back at the start and Democrats and opponents completely missed it and that was when he commented he could shoot someone in the face and his supporters would not care.

It's just like this Johnson - the only people that give a shit about how extreme his religious views are Democrats or potential new voters - his people do not care.

So in all of this, what we have missed all along is that Democrats should have focused instead of the positives of a Biden administration instead of hoping for some knockout blow to take Trump out. We should have learned this not only from the shooting comment but also from the pussy grabbing comment.  Back then, Democrats should have internalized that Trump is largely immune, as are many Republicans, to the ire of their supporters just based on a person's bad behavior (that is unless you are a Democrat).

I mean, shit, there are Republicans/pundits/mouthpieces that are trying to frame a gay sex scandal as being more serious than Jan 6! On top of that, they don't even care that Trump is channeling Hitler in his comments! Hitler! And look at Lindsay Graham's response to that.  A big fat, don't care (even though he used poor grammar to state it).

So right now, Democrats need to get off Trump and start selling the positives of what has been going on these past three years.  And here is an example - even though the Dow is not the best indicator of the economy, recall back under Trump there was a time the media was pushing a story of how the Dow may hit 40,000.  Currently, it is right near 38,000 and I have not seen one story with the optimism of it hitting 40k.  And this is a very powerful, though cosmetic, positive thing to push. Just like all the other economic positives that have seemed to have taken a back seat to the Trump scandals.

Here's another  - where is the powerful pushback by the Biden administration on the media creating the Bide age narrative?  Not once have I seen an interview where anyone forcefully hits back at pundits for creating this narrative.  Not once (and watch, after the 2024 election, the media is going to do a mea culpa and admit they not only created the Biden age narrative, but they promoted it and again failed at their coverage of US politics).

Yes, hindsight is 20/20, but we had signs of the changing Republican Party and how it morphed clearly into a part of "win, no matter what." Yes, we like to win, but as usual, Democrats continue to suck hind teet while behind the eightball in their practice of failing to see the writing on the wall and react accordingly.

I mean, Democrats, scandals, or personal behavior of most sorts, WILL NOT change a MAGAs mind, so we need to just quit trying and move on to what will allow change to happen. The continued regurgitation of how evil Trump is not the way to do it because it is clear, MAGA is a cult with a big base, so we need to focus on building a bigger one and quit wishing for a knockout blow that is most likely not going to come (I mean, shit, the founder of fucking Home Depot has broadcast that he will support Trump even if he is convicted).
