Fascinating story, Reg, and I felt the creepiness just from your description. I'm certain that the average Roman Catholic doesn't viscerally understand the horror visited upon all of those children. If they did, I don't see how they could remain in the pews. And it's not just the Catholics, any organization headed up by men, where the role of women is significantly diminished and offers little oversight and accountability, will have similar skeletons. I just think that the church's sick obsession with all things sexual fostered such a ghastly culture. All those poor women, prohibited from contraception, forced to give birth, only to leave their babes in church-run orphanages...tragically provided a supply for predatory priests. Sick, twisted and predictable. Didn't someone here once write about a "sincere hope that there is a God and that He is vengeful beyond all comprehension. " Oh if it were the case!
