Nice try Peter. But way too simplistic and way too rational.
I can already hear the reply if your idea was put into place - 'you're already taxed too much and now they want to send more IRS agents after you'. The 'you' in this retort would be portrayed as the average American (always) sitting at the kitchen table discussing their finances. And if not - the defense would be made that these are hard earned dollars which fuel more job creation - so why take it way to fund more bathrooms for the kids identifying as cats to store their litter boxes in.
