As most know - The Beatles released a new song this week. Long story short - a demo tape from John made its way to Paul and in 1995 or so we got Free As A Bird and Real Love - worked on by the remaining Beatles at the time - Paul, George and Ringo. They worked on Now and Then at the time but couldn't peel John's vocals away from the piano enough to make it work. Fast forward to now and machine learning software can do just that - separate stems. The Beatles used software created by Peter Jackson's company who's up to all kinds of audio-video intrigue. The song is nice - John's vocals are clean(er) and it all seems like magic.
But weirdly - similar software exists for us non-Beatles. So I gave a track from DB a go - one that I think unfortunately works in today's world.
Glass For Those Yet To Die (complete)
Glass For Those Yet To Die (vocal only)
Glass For Those Yet To Die (without vocal)
I would say - not bad. The 'without vocal' one does still have the vocals - just buried deep in the mix now. But the vocal only one sounds really really good. I used audiostrip.co.uk for this - but there are others.
