Icon Here is what I want to know - "evolving community standards"

I wish I had a much better grasp of history, especially history over time through the eyes of those present while history was being made.  What I'm getting at is this - in today's world, technology has become so present in all aspects of life like never before.  But with this technology, horrific other aspects have run rampant like never before due to our current level of technology.  To further illustrate, look at how in today's world, misinformation, persuasion through lies and fabrication, and all other things not factual, now influence our world. It really is true when it comes to the old phrase of how a lie gets halfway around the world before the truth gets its shoes on - now, it is all across the world even before the truth gets the bedsheet thrown back.  So my question is, how the fuck do we, as a supposed thinking species, change this? Take what is going on in the Middle East and the story of infants and children being murdered and beheaded.  Those stories have spread like wildfire and now it is being questioned just how accurate such tales have been and how again, the first casualty of war is truth.  Recall, back in the 90s, a similar lie was spread about babies and incubators in Kuwait.  And what I am seeing now about these stories is that NO GOVERNMENT or other agency has confirmed that they have even happened.  But this purposeful lying occurs through everything, and even though it has always been present, in today's tech world, it is much more pervasive and spreads so quickly.  I mean, look at the lies coming out of Washington by the Washington pols about almost everything and how much of it is blatantly false but still purposely spread. It is like social media has now given a green light for the spreading of any lie just because social media exists.  In other words,  when it comes to the spreading of lies, misinformation, and false information, there simply is no sort of modulation on inaccuracy or any sort of checks and balances to prevent such things and on top of that, social media and technology have actually become methods to truly weaponize these sort of things. Back during my college days, when it came to law and the creation of law, there used to be truly supportive concepts of social norms when it came to such things.  One phrase constantly listed in US Supreme Court rulings dealt with things like, "shock the consciousness of contemporary society" and "evolving community standards," both of which seem to have taken a back seat to the horrors created by an unfettered and unshackled social media and technology. In other words, lies, misinformation, and false information have instead seemed to have become the "consciousness of contemporary society" and within "evolving community standards" by them being allowed all through human society. Lately, Bill Maher has been dropping in my own favorability, but last night on his HBO show he had ANOTHER tech savvy person on and he discussed how AI works when it comes to social media and technology and it is clearly pushing just what I have brought up in this post - AI has adapted so it purposely spreads these likes and division and will continue to do so and only get worse and it is NOT beneficial to a functioning society, but here we are, too afraid to force the changes that society needs.
