Your thoughts on EW pretty much reflect mine. I've listened to him for a few years, first I think on a Sam Harris podcast which was probably 5 or more years ago. I remember that he had an obsession with Jean Seberg's death and the involvement of the FBI (I think) in hounding her. He also mentioned visiting Jeffrey Epstein's house once, and I believe he discovered that he was being filmed by JE, though the podcast was also quite a while ago. I think he's essentially a decent guy but he does have weird views at times and he hangs with people who are, er, problematic. His brother, Bret, used to be someone who I admired. He took a very gutsy and principled stand at Evergreen State College back in 2017 and faced real threats of violence and eventually job loss, though with a payout. Perhaps in an effort to pay the bills, his Dark Horse podcast has gone heavily into weird areas, and he and Sam Harris have real animus toward each other. Kind of sad as they were involved with some interesting debates that Harris had with Jordan Peterson concerning religion. I'm just a spectator who can't intellectually hang with anyone of these folks but it's interesting to sometimes hear what these former IDW characters are up to.
