I don't come around much anymore, but I do want to update. Noah has grown into a tall, cocky teenager, who is navigating being black in a white family (no easy feat). He's in an integrated neighborhood, so friends, neighbors & school people give him a pretty rounded sense of self. I don't know if his mom has, but my brother-in law & I have given him 'the talk', as much as a white person can broach the subject while having no cultural grounding in said subject. (an aside - my oldest sister was married to a cop - he told me when I was 14 "there are only 3 proper responses to a police officer - yes sir ; no sir & thank you sir) Anyway, His grades are good, he has a good group of friends around him while going through high school and figuring out what to do with his life. Just like a normal kid.
