Icon Future of visual entertainment (and sound, too)....

Over the last few years, I have really been watching a lot of old films and primarily from the film noir genre.

In watching these and contrasting them to our visual entertainment of today, it makes me wonder about the future of the visual arts.  What I'm getting at is, when studying the advancement of entertainment, just how far can these creators take this medium (and this includes sound) and what comes next?

Today, some of the better CGI films can appear actually real (though, there are some that while they are visually striking, they still are easily seen as being CGI -  I can't recall which superhero film I just saw where the CGI was good, but bad at the same time because the figures just didn't look and move right).

And all this makes me wonder, what is the next "big" thing/change in entertainment and what will it entail?  Look at how going to the movies had changed through the years - silent, talkies, black and white, color, CGI, film/camera lens sizes, Smellovisin, all of that and this goes for sound, too.

I wonder if the next changes will include a way to directly input stimuli into the brain and pleasure and emotion centers of the brain for a maximum physical experience.

And in a way, I would not be surprised if at some point there will be a way to "Bluetooth" this data directly into the brain.

But it gets back to my original question, just how much further can things like this be taken, if at all?

(On a mini-rant, one thing that does irritate me is how people growing up today take all of this entertainment availability for granted.  The variety and accessibility to all of this are utterly amazing to those of us over 50, especially when growing up with only the three big network channels and PBS and how radio used to be).
