Really like this post, EEE. I find myself broadly in agreement. I'm not quite as negative on the right wing as you, perhaps because there are a lot of Republicans near us in Houston, and I find almost all of them really different than this.
That said, the obvious hypocrisy of the "War On Christmas" stuff and its use like a "clickbait" item to rile up people on the right was always apparent. I might have seen just a little bit of anti-Christian sentiment out there so understand when some Christians feel marginalized (especially as some things happen in schools), it really isn't that big of an issue. FoxNews got very good at using those kinds of wedge issues to drive viewership. Of course, that's exactly what a lot of left-leaning websites do with blatantly misleading headlines and clickbait headlines, often toward Trump. Example: "Trump said drink bleach." He said nothing of the sort although was wandering toward that. Stupid comment, but the headlines were clickbait and outright lies.
On subject of the "F Joe Biden" or Brandon-type insults, I'm right with you. The reason I would never vote for Trump (never have) is in large part due to the New York-style insult culture that he actively promotes. It's a terrible example for younger people in our society, and I find it flat out unacceptable. (Among a few other things he does).
I detect some common ground here among us and really appreciated your thoughts. And while it's a big ask, can I direct you to my post below about Chuck Sams (indulge?) What I intended in that, although it's an hour, is to present a really clear-thinking and quite different narrative that I can feel slowly building. That's even or especially among the Republicans I see here in Houston. It's a slightly more conciliatory approach and dare I say more authentically American approach. It may take time or a difficult Trump loss to take further root, but I think it actually is taking root. The non-Red Wave of these midterms (despite really tough economic times) is some proof of that.
If you do have time to hear Chuck's podcast, I would be genuinely curious to read your comments. If you want, I could take them to him directly since we'll be having dinner in December. I actually think later in life, after this run as Director of National Parks, some additional political involvement from Chuck is possible. Perhaps we ought to cultivate that. He is a Democrat.
