What timing - I was just listening to a podcast on Rolling Stone and it's founding and influence and, of course, the Jann Wenner ingredient. I'll link that below. He had a biography before this memoir you're reading - called Sticky Fingers. I think it's likely a better account of Jann from a third(ish) person perspective.
I was a fan of RS in high school and into college when I ran into Creem and NME and Spin. Creem is back by the way in all it's weird glory. I read reviews mostly from blogs and message boards - I like -
Super Deluxe Edition blog/website
The Steve Hoffman music forum
and for finding new music - or maybe more importantly for me - rediscovering already released stuff - I pretty much hit shuffle on my music collection. I use Roon and love it. It pairs your music collection to reviews from All Music Guide and cross links everything so you can listen to some Baerwald and before you realize it - you're reading reviews about some guitarist who played with Santana.
Here's a link to that podcast -
