Just sitting here going through the motions of Internet travel and checking the latest news, looking for new books to read, and general roaming about, and something just struck me about this collection of serious people, oddballs and wackos (less so nowadays), movie and tv lovers, and especially music lovers - it's that after so long, this is a place where you do and do not know someone and at the same time.
So many personal tales and other stories have been shared by so many different people and yet, if seen on the street, these same people could pass each other on a sidewalk and not even know it. Not only that, people who frequent here are all across the globe, and to add to that mystery, all of these people are held together by a common thread (DB) that sort of has become invisible and is sort of like a spiderweb strand in a darkened room that we know is somewhere but has just become elusive (someone is probably thinking how I'm channeling Messybear - of whom, I do hope to meet in person someday).
Yes, the regular appearances of many of these fans have dwindled, and the unpredictable appearances of the man whose music we all enjoy have evaporated, but still, this site survives and with such a gracious host that has somehow pulled off an almost impossible task over 20 years (I don't think I've ever read a discourteous comment by Dan toward anyone in all of these years - and even if a member has deserved it - he has been like that waiter/waitress in a 24 hr diner that welcomes any patron with open arms and a kindly and sincere smile and even when the patron is full of shit and spouting endless nonsense).
Lastly, here's to hoping that when DB is finished with his novel, the music imp within him sparks the desire to maybe release a nice, quiet something.
