Well, we've known for a while this is the direction parts of the country have been marching toward. The US Supreme Court is stacked with scum and nutjobs so, expect the worst. Sadly, removing the rights of several segments of society have become the goal of Right Wing nutjobs. The culture war they have waged is winning. In states like Texas and Florida rights are already being trampled, not just women's health rights but a variety of rights including voting rights.
What I think really does not matter, I can't impact what is taking place here. I live in Massachusetts, a blue state, where none of this will happen because we have a majority of sane people here.
It would be interesting to hear Marc or Pat comment on it because these guys have supported politicians that want to move our country away from democracy and toward fascism. Why do people support this here?
Well, Right Wing media and politicians have swamped the country with an invented culture war. Making millions upon millions of Americans fear there is movement on the left to attack all of their beliefs and values.
Oddly, the Right seems willing to believe anything, with no evidence presented whatsoever, and will swallow every lie they tell regardless of how dumb or farfetched it is.
At this stage I don't know if it can be stopped. It seems unlikely. We have about 5% more people here registering as Republicans than Democrats. Another 5% more registering as Independents. Democrats are losing ground as we march toward the midterms. At which point they will likely lose the House and Senate. When that occurs, well, kiss this country goodbye in terms of what it once was.
Biden is very unpopular as a president and Kamala Harris is even more unpopular. So, when we reach 2024, expect the Democrats to lose the White House as well. Biden has done nothing really to earn his unpopularity, outside of pretty outrageous inflation, which is not his fault, but it is happening on his watch so Americans are blaming him. Comes with the job.
The Democrats seem fairly incapable of knowing what to do or say to combat this wave of ignorance that is swamping the country and Republicans have embraced just lying like crazy and saying whatever they think people want to hear to get them elected. Obviously, the Republican strategy is winning.
We have a large section of the population now that is horribly misinformed, swimming in nutty theories, won't listen to any media unless the media repeats the insanity they want to hear, and pretty much has seized control of one of our two major political parties.
A friend of mine that used to be a Republican has repeated to me over and over that to understand this you have to grasp that the only way to get these people to understand what they are doing is wrong or makes no sense is to watch them break the country and then hope we can rebuild it when they do.
It is not going to be fun to watch or live through. People will suffer, people will die, people will lose hope. Women are being moved back to being second class citizens in Red states, the rights of voters are being stripped away, state legislatures in Red states will chose who wins elections rather than voters, and people like Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, and Marjorie Taylor Greene will be the drivers of the country.
We are the frog sitting in water where the temperature is slowly rising and we have no idea what is coming.
Basically, kiss American Democracy goodbye if the Republicans sweep the midterms. Honestly, all signs point toward that happening.
About 75 million Americans no longer want a democracy. They want brutal fascist leaders that punish and execute their supposed enemies. What they seem to fail to understand, is after they are done executing and jailing their supposed enemies, all of that power will get turned on them because their rights and freedoms have been obliterated as well. But then, it will be too late to turn back.
