My primary 6 string acoustic I play is a 1980s Ibanez R400 Ragtime Special. It's a great little guitar. I was excited when I saw a video of Van Morrison from the 1980s and his guitar player was playing one. I also have I believe a 1964 Martin 12 string I mess about with. Truly a beautiful guitar. There are a bunch of guitars around the house, most of which I never play for various reasons. Some need repair, some a bit of tlc and I have a drop dead gorgeous 1950s Gretsch Country Gentleman suffering from some verdigris.
I just sold a 1930s violin from a famous German violin maker. My grandfather gave it to me when I was a boy insisting I learn how to play it. Which I never did. When I found it at my parents house after my father died last December I thought I would take it to a violin guy and have him spruce it up and I would learn how to play it.
The guy asked me if I was classically trained. I laughed and said "No, I just want to play like Rick Danko from The Band."
He said, "You don't play! You can't play this! This is an important violin for a classically trained professional musician!"
The guy was Russian, he said he would repair it and we would talk. He played it, beautifully actually, and told me it needed to be with someone who was a real violin player. So, he convinced me to sell it.
Someone got an amazing violin. Maybe he bought it for himself, he seemed quite in love with it.
