Senate confirmation hearings today for the next Director of National Parks in the US.  The nominee is my lifelong friend Chuck "Boogie" Sams (Charles F. Sams III).  This is they guy we made the first-ever Native American student body president at Pendleton High School (Oregon) in 1987.  And he was clearly THE guy for it - not a "diversity hire" in any way.  We are overjoyed and filled with pride today.  Glad to have had some small part in his growth toward this moment.  I particularly like what he says here between about 4:10 and 4:30 - concepts we used to talk about all the time and even discussed at length over breakfast this past July.
